The John and Elizabeth Blennerhassett Scholarship is intended to save a few working parents today from having to make that difficult choice. This scholarship is open to working parents who show academic promise and financial need. The scholarship can be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books or other educational expenses.
The Harris-Wiener Family Fund was established in 1998, by Charter Oak State College President Dr. Merle W. Harris and her husband David to assist needy women who wanted to continue their education, particularly women wishing to pursue careers in education, social service, or public service.
Beverly and Rodney Hawes, Jr. Scholarship recognizes a Charter Oak Student pursuing a business concentration that has demonstrated qualities of leadership and commitment to community and is considered to possess the potential to make positive contributions within a business environment.
Robert and Margaret Patricelli Foundation made a generous contribution to the Charter Oak State College Foundation to establish the Robert and Margaret Patricelli Scholarship Fund. This gift launched the Charter Oak State College Women in Transition Program. Income from the Robert and Margaret Patricelli Scholarship Fund will be used to provide scholarships for individuals who are Hartford residents, Pell eligible (economically disadvantaged), and in good academic standing.
The George Dingwall Scholarship is available to full-time law enforcement officers from any geographic region of the United States. Preference, however, is given to law enforcement officers within the State of Connecticut.
The Women in Transition program assists low-wage, single mothers earn a college degree in order to help break the cycle of poverty, instill the importance of education onto their children, and become active participants in their communities. Participants are provided a laptop, Internet access, textbooks, scholarships for courses and fees, and academic/career/personal counseling – all of which help to break down the barriers to postsecondary education for disadvantaged and underserved mothers. The Foundation Board has allocated $8,000 in FY 2010 for single mothers to earn a degree.
The Shea Endowed Fund is named after Dr. Bernard Shea , the first President of Charter Oak State College. The Shea Endowment was established in 1987 upon Dr. Shea’s retirement. This Endowed Fund enables the College to sponsor public lectures which further the College’s mission to engage students and the community in lifelong learning.
